My Perspective

I believe that endeavoring to improve our emotional quality of life takes bravery. I am happy to see the scales tipping in favor of mental health in recent years, however, we must acknowldge asking for mental health support has been culturally counter intuitive for generations. Reaching out for couseling and consultation is the first and most important step. As humans, it really is ok to say that sometimes we "aren’t always ok". Shame does not actually exist in the same space of asking for help.

My Purpose

That being said it’s hard enough to be brave when you feel safe, and I know many of us are not feeling safe right now.

The inspiration for my business name, Both Sides Counseling, came from my love of Joni Mitchell.  I have always found comfort and inspiration in music.  Very coincidentally, one evening I was struggling with coming to terms with something in my own life and watching the movie Love Actually at the same time.  A character story line presented itself coupled with the most perfect song by the queen Joni herself. The Song was Both Sides Now.

What I know for certain is that more than one thing can be true at the same time.  For example, you can love someone and not like them, you can be proud of yourself and also have regrets.

  My practice is open to all sides, good and bad, give or take, it’s client centered and a safe place.

My Therapy Background

I work with a wide range of individuals and diagnoses including psychosis, bipolar disorder, anxiety, depression and PTSD. I am an EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) certified therapist and use a combination of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) with clients to address, manage and alleviate symptoms.

Additional

I am also available for clinical supervision to licensure candidates individually and in groups. Personal and professional growth are essential to whole living and I hope to provide a space for that growth with those I work with.
